Artist Profile

Aileen Lanuza made a name for herself painting realistic works of women in traditional garb but set in a highly conceptual context. Her interest evolved into portraying women as major figures in their own right but set in highly interesting, conceptual and oftentimes amusing circumstances. Her current themes still significantly portray women in different roles, but having the same character and poignant forms. Among her latest accolades came in 2009 when she was awarded the coveted Juror's Choice Award in the GSIS National Art Competition.

Her paintings have been included in auction houses in Southeast Asia such as Larasati, Masterpiece and Borobudur, and have been featured in publications such as "A Treasury of Philippine Nudes" , "Larasati, Pictures of Asia", and "100 Years, 100 nudes" by the UP Alumni Centennial celebration. For 2012, she is completing a mural on The First Philippine Republic for the Araneta Coliseum at the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.

Aileen completed her studies at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts (2003) where she was a consistent college scholar graduating with honors. She has received recognition as one of the five best entries in an art competition at Malacanang Palace hosted by then President of the Philippines Fidel V. Ramos (1992), 2nd Honorable Mention at an art competition of the Manila Midtown Hotel (1993), Finalist at the Nationwide Caltex Sci-art competition and an awardee of McCann Erickson (2002). She has participated in over 30 group exhibitions as well as three exhibits where only four selected artists were asked to paint their vision of the women of today.
