Whispers of the Soul

Galleria Nicolas presents a special three-man exhibition titled “Whispers of the Soul,” a visual invitation to take an intimate journey through the facets of human emotion, thought, and spirit. This exhibit features the works of Katrina Cuenca, RV Basco, and Oliver Ojeda, with each artist creating a unique window into the human experience with their distinct styles and materials.

This evocative collection of works explores the aspects of the self that often go unspoken — the subtle whispers of the human soul that shape one’s identity. Katrina Cuenca’s gilded abstractions are poignant besides being only mesmerizing. Her twisting pastel forms slowly unfurl on backdrops of gold leaf creating stunning representations of one’s evershifting psyche. Each gentle undulation captures the fragility and fluidity of thought and emotion.

Brilliantly contrasting Katrina Cuenca’s curvilinear shapes is the bold rigidity of Oliver Ojeda’s sculptural works. Ojeda presents a collection of sculptures made of metal sheets each colored in a striking hue. The artist approaches his pieces as subjective forms of abstract expression. As viewers follow the straight lines of his pieces, they are encouraged to look inward to draw their unique interpretations from their personal experiences. For Ojeda, each color evokes emotion and every stroke tells a different story in a way words can’t.

While Cuenca and Ojeda experiment with abstraction, visual artist RV Basco creates whimsical representational art that exudes the introspective atmosphere characteristic of his works. Basco depicts childlike figures playing in their dream-like environments. To the artist, the mysterious painted worlds each innocent figure inhabits are an extension of the subconscious. The hazy pastel colors and surreal landscapes feel both familiar and strange, inviting viewers to reflect on how reality molds the latent parts of the mind.

“Whispers of the Soul” is a celebration of the intangible aspects of being—a call to listen to tune in to the quieter currents of the human psyche. From delicate brushstrokes, bold sheets of metal, to peaceful representational scenes, Katrina Cuenca, Oliver Ojeda, and RV Basco seek to honor the quiet yet powerful forces that stir within each individual’s soul.

“Whispers of the Soul” by Katrina Cuenca, Oliver Ojeda, and RV Basco will run from December 5 - 19, 2024 with an Artists’ Reception on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 5 PM. Galleria Nicolas Greenbelt is located at 3/F Greenbelt 5, Makati City.
