Birds and blooms have a mutualistic and interconnected relationship in nature. The reliance of birds on flowers for food and shelter, and dependence of flowers on birds for pollination further cement this vital connection to each other. Such is the wonder found in the natural world that some birds and flowers even coevolve to satisfy mutual needs.
These interactions have been the inspiration for art and literature from ancient times and as such, Artists’ Gilbert Semillano and Ella Hipolito further highlight this with the exhibits “Plumes and Petals” and “As the Gardens Sing”. In combining the mesmerizing beauty of Semillano’s avian subjects juxtaposed against multicolored blooms with Hipolito’s intricately crafted brass sculptures of birds and foliage, the artists together weave a colorful tapestry celebrating the beauty of nature. Semillano’s pieces strike a careful balance of boldness and subtlety, whether he's rendering the graceful movements of exotic birds or the sumptuous folds of lush flora. Likewise, Hipolito’s whimsical rendering of her chosen subjects in brass embraces elegance with timeless craftsmanship.
Gilbert Sabarez Semillano has been painting since before he could even write his own name. But the award-winning Creative Director's artistic journey extends far beyond the canvas. With over 12 years of experience leading global advertising campaigns, Semillano has developed a unique creative perspective - blending the power of storytelling with an intuitive painter's eye. His current focus is on what he calls "elegance art" - a refined style that reimagines the natural world.
Rizal Artist Ella Hipolito is a graduate of Fine Arts from the College of the Holy Spirit Manila. She worked as an Art Director prior to being a full time visual artist in 2015. She is Co-founder of the San Mateo Artists Guild, the first & only recognized art group in San Mateo, Rizal and has had several solo shows. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and art demonstrations and was a finalist in several prestigious competitions including the GSIS National Art Competition. She started sculpting in Brass in 2021 while continuously painting her whimsical works on Canvas.
