“Between Tide and Horizon” by Karina Baluyut
Galleria Nicolas Greenbelt
June 23 – July 07, 2026
Drawing inspiration from nature, memory, and the passage of time, artist Karina Baluyut creates luminous abstract landscapes that evoke waterways, shifting skies, weathered terrains, and traces of distant journeys. Through layered pigments, textured surfaces, and intuitive gestures, Baluyut constructs imagined environments where structure and spontaneity coexist. Influenced by her background in architecture and her fascination with organic forms, her paintings reveal a delicate balance between permanence and change.
“Between Tide and Horizon” brings together a body of work that explores the threshold where land, water and sky converge in constant movement, transition and transformation. Here, fragments of natural rhythms emerge through veils of color and light. Suggestive forms emerge and recede, recalling the rhythms of tides, the drift of clouds, and the gradual shaping of landscapes over time. Rather than depicting specific places, these paintings invite an emotional and sensory engagement with the natural world, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and discover their own personal narratives.
Baluyut’s works are deeply rooted in observation but transcend literal representation. Her themes echo nature’s continuous cycles of growth, erosion, and renewal. Her evocative abstractions not only capture the natural world’s physical beauty but allows her to share her own personal stories, emotions and memories.
Karina Baluyut is an Architecture graduate of the University of the Philippines and a topnotcher in the architectural board exams in 2004. She approaches painting with an understanding of structure, space, and composition, while embracing the spontaneity and fluidity of natural processes and the rhythms of nature. She has been a part of numerous Galerie Joaquin Group shows and has also had several solo exhibitions with the Group.
