Born October 1, 1980, Jaspher studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. Majoring in painting, Penuliar is one of the more enigmatic young artists of today preferring to retreat back to the idyllic vistas of his hometown in Laguna. There he explores and presents his radical vision of humanity trapped as they are by social conventions and mores. Yet, in his paintings, Penuliar presents a vision of hope and deliverance bathing his forms with a promising light source as if telling his viewers that in spite of the stark images he paints on canvas that enlightenment and freedom are just on the horizon. Consistently, Jaspher’s painterly style nicely compliments the issues that he deals with.
